Museum / Art Gallery Collections Specialist

Museum/Art Gallery Collection Specialists assist in art or museum collection management and in the planning and production of exhibits. They also work to preserve the collection. Workers who manage and care for a museum's collections are experts on handling items to minimize damage, and they understand how temperature, light, humidity and other factors can harm these objects. These workers ensure that their museum's collections are preserved and shared with the public in a meaningful way. They may also maintain the computerized system regarding the collection items, and update information as necessary. Museum/Art Gallery Collection Specialists also may coordinate workshops, tours, openings, receptions and special events.
