Staffing agencies in Denver may provide professional temporary staff such as accountants, human resource managers, social media and IT specialist etc. during the normal business day, but on New Year’s Eve 2013, they may get a call for another type of staff, the New Year’s Eve (NYE) Event Worker.
As discussed in our blog 12/10/13, the recent growth of global festivals, events and conferences as an industry has a large economic, social and cultural impact. Decadence, a two-night NYE event at the Colorado Convention Center 12/30-12/31, is a great example of a really big event…no, I should say, a really big Denver NYE party.
What is Decadence?
The Thesaurus says one thing but in this case, Decadence is the largest single-day electronic dance music event in Colorado. NYE 2013 rocked the Colorado Convention Center with back-to-back nights of wild dance parties, an array of world-class talent, sensational performers, exquisite décor, top-notch production and stunning visuals. Over the two nights 31 bands played, and it was rumored that 20,000 people were expected each night. What was not a rumor was the cost of the tickets... you will have to part with $160 for the two nights.
What is Electronic Dance Music (EDM)?
According to Wikipedia Electronic dance music (also known as EDM, dance music, club music, or simply dance) is a set of percussive electronic music genres produced primarily for environments centered in dance-based entertainment, such as nightclub settings. The music is largely created for use by disc jockeys and is produced with the intention of it being heard in the context of a continuous DJ set; wherein the DJ progresses from one record to the next via a synchronized segue or "mix".
Electronic dance music achieved limited popular exposure when it was marketed as electronica in America during the mid-1990s. At that time, a wave of dance music acts from the UK, including the The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and Underworld, had been prematurely associated with an "American electronica revolution." Ok. I got that. Sweet!
J. Kent Staffing Managers Hire 21 Event Workers for Decadence
In partnership with our global events management company, J. Kent Staffing Managers working in cross-functional teams created, developed and executed the event staffing plan one week prior to the event. Hiring and scheduling of staff for multiple shifts was completed quickly as well. What was the draw, a large New Year’s Eve party in downtown Denver, Colorado, or EDM?
J. Kent Employees Loved the Decadence Temporary Job and EDM
The job requirements and duties for J. Kent’s Event Workers were pretty simple, but sometimes still challenging to our Denver Staffing Manager who have a lot on their plate at this time of year:
- Neat and clean presentation and customer-focused skills were a must
- Dress: khaki pants, black shoes/socks, and a white collared shirt
- Dress: blue vests and ties were provided upon arrival
- Checking ID’s, taking tickets, and administering wrist-bands to those who were 21+
Our staff ranged in age form 18-50 with college degrees in: Business Administration, Human Resources, Marketing, Business, Communications, Sports Medicine, Spanish, English, Psychology, and Sociology etc. It was a fun, diverse temp job that was even sought after by one of J. Kent’s employees, an attorney, who had just passed the bar in New York. Thanks guys, great job!
