Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment (TUPE)

U.K. regulation designed to protect the rights of (temporary) employees in a situation in which an undertaking — in part or whole — is transferred, including continuity, conditions and terms of work. This can be important when an employer with an existing contract for the provision of temporary workers is acquired by another company that has different agreed-upon pay rates or working times.  Term mainly used in Western Europe.
