Denver Recruiters frequently are called upon to locate qualified, hard-to-find talent for many of its clients in all our areas of Expertise. Finding the needle in the haystack is always an interesting, challenging and educational process for our J. Kent Recruiters. SharePoint 2010 Administrators fall into this category as demand for the software skill and expertise has increased dramatically over the last 12 months.
Microsoft SharePoint 2010 – Why Has the Demand Increased?
Microsoft has released several generations of SharePoint but not until SharePoint 2007 was released did the product gain some attention. Microsoft divided SharePoint 2007 into 6 different core functional areas. The May 2010 official release of SharePoint 2010 evolved from the 2007 version. The 2010 release offers a number of improvements over the 2007 product, including user interface improvements, greater social capabilities, deeper business intelligence, advanced records and document management and better integration with other systems. Therefore, in providing more advanced capabilities in content management and document collaboration, the demand for skilled and experienced SharePoint 2010 Administrators has increased.
Denver Engineering Firm Creates New SharePoint 2010 Administrator Position
For several years our highly respected, Denver engineering company outsourced this specialized skill. However, the organization’s IT Manager began to quickly realize with current contract demands that the company would gain in productivity and efficiency and have greater cost control by having a SharePoint 2010 Administrator on staff. In February 2012 the IT Manager engaged J. Kent to conduct a search for the position.
J. Kent Recruiter Identifies Michelle with BS in Biology & Expert Computer Skills
Several weeks into the search brought no significant results. As the search deepened, Michelle was identified. She moved through The J. Kent Process successfully and tested as expert in many of the required software packages (SharePoint, Access, Excel, Word, and Outlook). Could Michelle be the needle in the haystack?
After graduation from college, Michelle worked as an Administrative Assistant assigned to IBM working in the executive offices through a temporary staffing agency and thereafter satisfied her love for traveling by working for the airlines. Throughout her 15 year business career she has gained experience as Technical Writer for an engineering firm and Office Manager in the insurance industry. Although Michelle did not pursue her major field of study after graduation, progressively throughout her career, she became more and more of an expert in computer applications, databases, complex spreadsheet creation and SharePoint training.
Today with that continued passion, Michelle is pursuing a MS in Computer Programming. Michelle was the only candidate presented to and interviewed by our client. After a successful background check was conducted, Michelle was offered and accepted this great new career position with exceptional compensation and benefit package.

What skills and background did Michelle have to offer J. Kent’s client? For the past five years Michelle was the Project Controls Specialist/SharePoint Administrator for a $2.1 billion dollar coal plant project being built in the U.S. During her tenure she began to hone her database development/design skills, managed and maintained extremely large databases and produced complex, macro spreadsheets for her engineer and technical in-house customers. Much time was also spent in training engineering and technical staff on SharePoint, Maximo, Business Objects, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
